Let’s design a maze | 3102Labs

Here’s the brief snippet from my founder’s letter that I wrote when Evy was acquired by a California based hardware company.

.. We've started to realize that startup is like a maze. You can go non-stop trying all its paths to reach the end line. Good luck with finding the right series of doors in this method. A bird eye's view though can be the cheat code to find the better guess at right doors. But that's not enough - a lot of people has the access to the height. But what if we create our own maze?  

That's what I plan to do in my next company - to make our own goddamn maze and let others play in it.

And we intend to do precisely this with 3102Labs. Create our own maze, our own category.

Think of 3102labs as a group of engineers and designers where we are constantly experimenting with problem statements and coming up with new questions. Solve very targeted, high value problem but do it like magic.

We’re starting with $50k angel, experimenting in consumer social, healthcare, and space analytics.

But labs aren’t built on problems or capital. They’re built on a simple belief:

Team, team and team.

It’s the only thing that matters - industries, problem and customers can change, but the team need to stick through. I’ve experienced it multiple times throughout my startup journeys.

Founding team is a group of artists, each bringing their specialty to make the whole. The extreme uncertainty gives us the canvas to carve something from nothing. It gives us freedom: the feeling of being able to do anything. Just as artists discover themselves through creation, we discover ourselves, the world, and our people through building.

Like any artist, we need three things: the naive belief that we can do the impossible, the energy to persist when nothing is certain, and the obsession with the problem that keeps us working until magic appears.

Together, I’d like to build this studio of people who can imagine the impossible and then achieve it. WITH YOU.

The scale of the industry and its reach is appalling.

Something massive can be done here.

So yes, it’s an invitation to create our own maze.

And in this ever changing world, we have a real chance to build it.

Our target: One problem statement. Magical execution. Billions of lives impacted. Over 6-7 years. Everything else is negotiable except these fundamentals.

Our Method: Ask a lot of questions. Experiment relentlessly. Pin down the right one. Execute ruthlessly until it hits.

So to everyone reading this - potential teammates, investors, friends who get what we’re doing: let’s create our own maze, our own category. Because there’s a lot to be done in this world - we’re far from the future of our dreams. And the best way to get there is through magic.
